16:06:21 <tota11y> Useful Commands: #action #agreed #help #info #idea #link #topic.
16:06:29 <joanie> #topic GSoC updates
16:06:42 <joanie> magpie: floor is yours
16:06:43 <magpie> #info - Magdalen apologises about missing the last meeting as she was in GUADEC finishing off the gsettings patch.
16:07:12 <magpie> #info Magdalen wants to thank the mentoring team for their help with the lightening talk at GUADEC. She felt she could have done it better on the day but it could certainly have been worse, and all things considered she feels that she let many people know that this project was important one way or another during the course of the conference :-)
16:07:28 <joanie> :)
16:07:33 <magpie> #info Magdalen spoke to Karen about replacing the out-of-date GNOME magnifier how-to on the BBC website after it is finished and Karen seemed to be very interested in helping get the change publicised.
16:07:42 <magpie> #link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/guides/magnify/computer/linux/gnome/index.shtml
16:07:56 <magpie> #info - In GUADEC it was possible to speak face to face with the developers of GNOME Shell and it was possible to gain an understanding of what would be required for the patch. The following pieces of information were discovered:
16:08:15 <magpie> #info - The gjs exception experienced by Magdalen shown here https://raw.github.com/thisMagpie/GSoC/master/javascript/gjs_error was actually normal and was not related to the crashed experienced in GNOME Shell. Further investigation suggests that the GNOME Shell extentions developers work around the issue by adding the line: "module_autogenargs['gnome-shell']=' --enable-jhbuild-wrapper-script'" and then running gno
16:08:16 <magpie> me-shell by entering the source gnome-shell directory in jhbuild and running the gnome-shell script from its src directory. It follows that 'jhbuild run gnome-shell --replace' is incorrect. Magdalen did not find out the details but she believes that this is because gnome-shell fails to make use of any of the system libraries whilst running under jhbuild because when she tried the command she noticed the environment
16:08:18 <magpie> ran a lot more 'smoothly' than it had been running prior.
16:08:30 <magpie> #info The following command must be used from now on: 'cd /home/dev/gnome/source/gnome-shell/; ./src/gnome-shell --replace'
16:08:45 <magpie> #info Magdalen has put separate .jhbuildrc configuration files in github: One for each environment she has avalaible because they each seem to require slightly different tweaks in order to work well (e.g. WebKit can not be compiled in a reasonable time fames.
16:08:47 <magpie> #info The desktop .jhbuildrc configuration is https://github.com/thisMagpie/GSoC/blob/master/JHbuild/desktop.jhbuildrc
16:08:50 <magpie> #info The mac .jhbuildrc configuration is https://github.com/thisMagpie/GSoC/blob/master/JHbuild/mac.jhbuildrc
16:09:53 <magpie> #info magdalen has run the focusCaretTracker changes successfully but has not finished all the tests due to (yet another) mac crash slowing things down. However gnome-shell is built now successfully on both computers!!!
16:10:46 <magpie> #info The only problem at the moment is that the mac thinks it is monday janurary 1, 2001 and although it is possible to 'ping 8.8.8.8' the connection seems to be limited in some way on wired and wireless.
16:10:48 <magpie> #help does anyone know how to set the date via bash because I cannot rebuild gsettings and include the change while the git.mk is so many years in the future, it seems.
16:11:34 <magpie> #info it is not urgent as Magdalen updated gsettings from desktop since they were pushed to master :-)
16:11:38 * magpie getting link
16:11:40 <joanie> :)
16:12:42 <magpie> #link https://git.gnome.org/browse/gsettings-desktop-schemas/commit/?id=3e7aaf2f0fe2f0c98a01cbdad0a74bc079390f89
16:13:05 <joanie> yay!
16:13:09 <magpie> #help can anyone clarify whether monday is a hard or soft deadline?
16:13:18 <magpie> :-)
16:13:52 <jjmarin> hi !
16:13:54 <joanie> which monday?
16:14:06 <joanie> and for what deadline?

16:15:43 <joanie> lemme pull up the schedule
16:16:06 <joanie> https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointNine
16:16:28 <magpie> #info Magdalen is aiming for magnifier and tracker commit to land on or before 19th August but is not sure if there's a contingency or not in case there are any problems over the weekend

16:16:44 <joanie> ----------------------
16:16:48 <joanie> (end of c&p)
16:17:17 <joanie> magpie: does that answer your question or not?
16:18:16 <magpie> joanie did you get to read my last info? I'm still not sure based on what Florian said about the gsettings being subject but the mag/tracker not
16:18:34 * joanie scrolls up
16:18:43 <magpie> either way I want it to be done i just need to know if I need to pull all my resources to make it happen or not
16:19:22 <joanie> seems I'm missing the #info in question
16:19:33 <joanie> the magnifier is not a UI change
16:19:50 <magpie> it's ok i think I got my answer
16:19:57 <joanie> ok
16:20:17 <magpie> the info wa sthe date joanie fwiw
16:20:23 <joanie> k
16:20:30 <joanie> so.... anything else on this topic?
16:20:42 <magpie> yes
16:20:49 <magpie> just one thing
16:22:46 <magpie> #info Magdalen has a lot to discuss with mentors after this commit gets out the way and some ideas for after the primary aims of the project are complete but that will have to wait till after the commit and this is just an fyi :-)
16:22:48 <magpie> one more
16:22:52 <magpie> actually
16:22:55 <magpie> i can just ask
16:23:28 <magpie> what is the deal with my blog can I wait till after monday to do it? I'm concious that I need to do one soon but i'm not sure how soon
16:23:45 <joanie> I suspect it can wait
16:23:53 <joanie> have you encountered blog police?
16:24:02 <magpie> I updated the project page before GUADEC i can info that i guess
16:24:28 <magpie> I was asked to rewrite the accessibility documentation -all of it
16:24:37 <magpie> but i don't feel qualified to do that tbh
16:25:00 <joanie> jjmarin: isn't documentation on your to-do list?
16:25:15 <joanie> magpie: and who asked you to rewrite all of it?
16:25:47 <magpie> yeah definitely I like it but I am not sure about all of it because that's not only understandingg all the a11y modules inside out but also the law
16:26:06 <joanie> yeah
16:26:13 * magpie really likes the current check list
16:26:17 <joanie> I don't think whoever requested it made a reasonable request of you
16:26:38 <magpie> Kat did joanie because she said the current licence it was under needed to be got rid of
16:26:51 <jjmarin> magpie: yes, there are some parts that need to be updated. The workflow is open a bug report in bugzilla and send patches
16:26:55 <joanie> what license?
16:27:06 * magpie checking
16:29:03 <jjmarin> magpie: are you talking about the accessibility chuncks of the gnome user documentation or are you talking about the GNOME Desktop Accessibility Guide
16:29:06 <magpie> I can't find it quickly enough but it's this module i think https://developer.gnome.org/accessibility-devel-guide/3.8/accessibility-devel-guide.html
16:29:39 <joanie> ok
16:30:03 <jjmarin> ok, that's the GNOME Desktop Accessibility Guide and it is very outdated. I haven't done anything with that yet
16:31:04 <joanie> we can add it to the list
16:31:06 <magpie> ah ok I wasn't sure if anyone was involved but i did tell her i did not feel qualified
16:31:11 <jjmarin> but other people seem to have update it
16:31:39 <jjmarin> sorry I'm confused
16:31:54 <joanie> btw, any other GSoC updates?
16:32:00 <joanie> since this is the GSoC updates topic?
16:32:24 <magpie> i would be happy to do parts I can do but not the parts I don't know about.
16:32:40 <jjmarin> the GNOME Desktop Accessibility Guide was outdate and now it points the a11y gnome user documentation
16:32:58 <joanie> #topic documentation
16:33:41 <joanie> #info Kat asked Magdalen to rewrite our documentation. :)
16:33:48 <joanie> anything else to info?
16:33:51 <magpie> thanks joanie
16:34:56 <joanie> otherwise we can move on?
16:35:11 <magpie> #info Magdalen is happy to help with that but does not feel qualified to write the whole lot because of the breadth and depth of the technical and legal aspects of creating a fresh module for a11y developers and users
16:35:15 <magpie> ok cool
16:35:17 <magpie> done
16:35:57 <joanie> thanks
16:36:02 <joanie> #topic Marketing
