Events

A social event is a place for attendees to meet up in the afternoon/nights of the conference days. It's a good way for attendees to get to know each other. Note that all these are suggestions and not mandatory events. Only do what you have money and energy to do.

Previous events have been:

Registration Event

Can be held the afternoon/night before the first core day and allows people to get there badges beforehand. Can include some light snacks and beverage.

Parties

Can be held during any of the core days. Either at a bar or a loaned place. A couple of things need to be kept in mind: * You'll need to ensure the age limit of the place (if it only accepts guests from 23 and up, younger attendees will be excluded). * Does the place have alcohol-free alternatives, not only for those that for various reasons can't or won't drink, but also for those that want to drink less. * Make sure to call beforehand and make a reservation and/or ensure there will be enough space for up to 200 people.

If you get a party sponsor, you can provide tickets for beverages and snacks.

Picnic

This is ideally held at a bigger park. Provide instructions to the attendees on how to get there. You can buy some wine, soft drinks, bread, cheeses and smaller finger food. Depends a bit on good weather, so have a indoors backup plan in place.

Guided city tour

A lot of cities have city tours that you can get in contact with. If you're a big enough group, they are often willing to make a tour just for your group.

Soccer game

Rent or loan a nearby soccer field, or bring cones for goals and arrange it in a park. Water bottles is good to have, some vests or other indicators to mark teams. Most important is naturally the soccer ball.

Competitive games

Similar to the soccer game, this needs a good spot, such as a sports area, or a park. There are a number of games that you can do. Julita and Carlos knows more about this.

Trips/Walks

It can be nice to hold a trip on the final afternoon of the unconference days - can be a walk to a nice area, a trip out of the city, or a visit to a museum/gallery. The main idea is to let people do something a bit different and maybe get some light exercise. Most people are pretty tired by this point, so a change is often welcome.
