BostonMontréal Summit 2011

The 11th annual 'Boston' Summit will be held on the weekend of October 8 to 10 in Montréal, Canada.

The Summit is a three-day hackfest for GNOME developers and contributors. It is not primarily aimed at users or new contributors, but if you want to jump right into the deep end, it's a fantastic way to meet everyone and get involved. Unlike traditional conferences, the Boston Summit is all about getting developers together and getting things done. While there are some non-hacking sessions, they are geared heavily towards many-to-many, interactive discussion and planning, rather than one-to-many presentations.

Venue

The venue for the summit is the École Polytechnique de Montréal.

Montréal Trudeau Airport (YUL) is the natural choice for those arriving by plane. Montréal is also about a 5 hour drive from the Boston area. As of 2009, a passport is required for those entering Canada by car.

The summit will be held in the Pavillons Lassonde (2A on the map below -- follow the green dotted line from the Metro). We're meeting in room M-1020, with additional sessions in M-2101 and M-2103.

There is parking identified as "visitor parking 2A" at the side of the building, for those arriving by car.

You are expected at the École Polytechnique from 10am every day, the space should be available until around 6pm.

The party is about a 30 minute walk from the Cantile Suites and Sofitel Hotels. It's also fairly close to the beautiful and efficient metro station Lionel-Groulx.

Le Cantlie Suites Hotel and Sofitel Montreal are next to each other. From there, you can take bus 165 or bus 166 from Guy/Sherbrooke stop to de la Côte-des-Neiges/Queen-Mary stop or Decelles/Troie stop, respectively. Walk to the bus, bus ride, and walk from the bus should take about 35 minutes.

You could also experience Montreal's distinctive metro system (total trip time ~35 minutes):

• start at Peel station on the green line (2 minutes walk from hotel), travelling in the direction of Angrignon
• transfer to the orange line at Lionel-Groulx by walking directly across the platform (direction Côte-Vertu)
• transfer to the blue line at Snowdon by walking down the stairs
• arrive at Université-de-Montréal

You can save yourself one transfer (at Lionel-Groulx) by walking for ~10 minutes directly to an orange line station from the hotel (most likely Bonaventure), but why would you want to do that?

Actually, if you're a transit geek at all, you should probably allocate some time to spend in the metro.
