List of package names used by the GNOME PackagingProject
This list is in very early draft!
Contents
Purpose of this page
The purpose of this page is to create a list of "official" package names that will be used by the GNOME PackagingProject to create the individual packages (first step is to allow creation of RPMs). The main goal is to establish a naming-scheme that third-party providers (or "fifth toe" packages) can rely (& thus depend) on.
Such a list is needed because there is no fixed naming scheme for many packages. For example you can choose beteeen gtk+2, gtk+2, gtk2, GTK+, GTK+2, GTK2. Similar confusion is more likely for other packages and less likely for others.
When creating this list, the (sometimes weired) naming-schemes of distributors shall not be taken into account. (Don't choose a name because a distribution uses that name - judge reasonably). Once this list is done, distributors are encouraged to provide the official names in virtual packages or adopt the naming scheme if possible.
Packages
When editing this page (feel free to do so), don't hesitate to fill in missing names. If you change a name, please give a short explanation why you did change it (not only in the comment for the change, but within the page as well)
The tarball names are the parts of the tarballs with the version & tarball-extension snipped.
Please keep the list sorted alphabetically.
