What did the dialog title say?
1.1. Colorimeter not registered
This is when GNOME Color manager canot find your device in usb.ids, and thus doesn't know the make and model of your device. We've already fixed the following devices -- please update your version of usb.ids with the patch if you own these:
Otherwise, please:
Check your usb.ids file is up to date (wget http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids, and then replace your system copy, then restorecon /usr/share/hwdata/usb.ids if you're running SELinux) -- then replug your hardware and try again.
Otherwise visit http://www.linux-usb.org/usb-ids.html and begin the process of registering your device vendor model.
1.2. Colorimeter not recognised
We've already fixed the following devices -- please update your version of GNOME Color Manager if you own these:
- Huey
Otherwise, please:
Calibrate your screen with gcm-prefs --verbose with your colorimeter plugged in
- Create an email with the subject "gnome-color-manager help"
- Attach the full output trace to an email
Add a link to what your colorimeter looks like in the message body, for instance http://gallery.photo.net/photo/8498212-lg.jpg
Also add information if your colorimeter needs to be set to different positions for different modes, for instance http://www.bartneck.de/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/color_munki_settings.png
