Alan McGovern is working on moving Banshee to libgpod. It's in a decent enough shape to get wider testing. These are instructions on how to test it:
1. Getting It
- your distro here
- Deps you need:
2. Things You Should Know
- The Hardware Detection Layer is new and the iDevice DAP extension is new, so even if you don't have an iDevice we could still do with overall device testing.
- iphone 4, ipod touch 4, ipad and nano touch (6G) don't work for now (unsupported by libgpod)
3. Testing the Hardware
- Plug it in.
- Launch Banshee from the terminal: "banshee-1 --debug".
- Test syncing the following things to the device.
- Sync music to and from the device (drag and drop and autosync)
- Sync to Playlists and Smart Playlists works, but it's not perfect (see BGO#663065, BGO#638602, BGO#576722).
- If it works, buy Alan a beer, if not:
4. Filing Bugs
File a bug in Banshee. Make sure you use the Component dropdown to choose the kind of device it is.
- Attach all --debug spew from the terminal
- Device information:
- Mention the model of the device, the color, and the capacity.
The part/model is in Preferences->About or Settings->About, and looks like MB1234LL/M or something like that
- The version of the firmware
- The last three digits of the serial number. (It's on the back)
- Attach output of "udevadm info --export-db"
- Attach output of "gvfs-mount --list"
5. Managing bugs
Bug triagers should assign all portable device bugs filed following these instructions to Alan McGovern (alan dot mcgovern at gmail dot com).
